What I Learned From Losing My Job In 2020 – Refinery29

I was completely depleted. I was submitting upwards of 30 resumes a day.
I look at people who are interviewing me and they look nothing like me. I’m a Black woman, and every Tom, Rebecca, and Samantha: They’re not going to hire someone like me.
My financial situation was much worse than I thought.
I’ve been saving money like mad to shoot as soon as everything is safe again. As soon as the vaccine is in everybody, we can just hit the ground running.
Since I left my job and started working on my own projects, I’ve woken up every morning so excited for the day and ready for whatever challenge comes at me.
I came out as a trans woman last year, so sometimes I think it’s a great time to be in quarantine and at home.
My experiences through COVID have led me to second guess what I’m doing and who I am.
I’ve been pushed to a point of desperation, where I’m now less concerned about my safety and more concerned about how badly I need money.
